That steel bar was hollow, like ours, but much thinner, and extremely short.....barely covering the length of the tiny radiator! There was nothing else in the front corner but a plastic sprayer bottle on one of them! If you get hit in one of the front corners, there is nothing to protect you in them. Also, the clear plastic headlight covers were paper thin, as was what was left of the plastic from the front cover! There is a total false sense of security in those vehicles if you crash! Our Crossfires seem to offer much better protection! Compared to the above mentioned newer cars, I recently saw the damage to an early 2000 Buick that bowled over 65 feet of chainlink fence , along with the neighbor's stockade fence. Along the way it grabbed a 20 feet aluminum ladder and folded it in half. The ladder pierced the radiator, but other then that there was no damage to the exterior but a few light scratches from the folded ladder on the hood! The fences looked like a tornado went right down the middle...everything knocked over, shattered etc. The plastic bumper didn 't even crack! I could not imagine what it would have done to the newer, forementioned Japanese or Korean cars!
im very impressed with the safety on the crossfire. Im not even sure if it bent the frame, as there is no mention of it on the $10, 000 estimate. Im not sure what im gonna do wuth it but i did buy it back. Ive got a cousin that has been doing bodywork for yrs, that wants to take a look at it. Lol might be a good time for a v8 swap. Or part out or use for parts for my srt that im buying.
