Oil changes for me has been to add (to the XF) 7 quarts then start the car and run it a few seconds to PURGE air out of the filter area (for the haters, this is AFTER the filter and plug is installed and secure)! Then turn off, wait a few, and check the level. IF you got most of the old oil out when drained, just add what the dipstick says to add BELOW the max indicator. Only IF the car is level, of course. IF not level, you run the risk of OVERFILLING, which MIGHT cause the electronic level indicator to stick.
