Be sure the filter is pushed all the way onto the stalk as far as it will go

To add to what Gary posted, when you place the 'O' ring on the cap (#5), make sure the indent at the top
IS NOT where you place the 'O' ring. If you look closely, it is actually the second indent (the one below the top gap), where 'O' ring #5 sits. Many have used that top groove only to find the oil later sprayed all over the engine compartment from it leaking all around the cap. IF properly placed, you'll see that gap between the O ring and the rim of the cap. IF wrong, the O ring will be touching the cap rim. Also, if you use that suction pump, add 7 quarts,
button it all up, and run the car for a few seconds. Then check the oil after giving the oil time to drain back into the pan (then adding to your satisfaction). I have found if the car isn't pretty level while sucking the old oil out, some oil remains. If you add 8 quarts based on this, you might be over the top level (which has caused some problems long term with a 'sticking' electronic level sensor). If your oil level sensor sticks, it sometimes displays on the dash (annoying), and costs quite a few if you replace that oil level sensor in the pan area. It is very easy to change the oil using a suction kit, I do it all the time (use a suction kit, called a topsider). Have fun, be careful, and good luck!

PS: if you use a little oil on the inside top and bottom of the filter, it slips into the top of the stack a lot easier.
