Generally, I agree with you on the brands all around. It is suggested that if one tire needs replacement that you do it in pairs. Taking that one step further, I think if all the tires were put on at the same time and the fronts need replacement, to go ahead and buy the rears (with the fronts but not mount yet) then tear up the ones that were on them until they need replacement (and then swap the new ones on). This way you can have some fun (that you wouldn't have on new tires). Ultimately, different brands just might have some varied specs on sidewall flex and traction, so I would do an all 4 replacement so handling is a constant. Just saying!
