the 'tech' got to that conclusion from following the stupid-assed procedure from the service manual; in fact, that phrase is right out of the manual. The manual was written by the engineers who designed the system, not by anyone who troubleshoots such systems for a living. Iow: The conclusion drawn is highly suspect.

The answer you got from the dealer means nothing, stop trying to make decisions based on what a dealer said.
(sure, they may be right, the guy who looked at it might know what he is doing - but i have as much chance of sleeping with avril lavigne as a dealer 'tech' correctly diagnosing the top system of a crossfire.)
