I BELIEVE in the UK and/or UE, there is a headlight leveling switch in that position.
In any event, in the USA, that space has no function in any model year.
Since the supposed 2007/2008 part was manufactured in 2004 that does cast a little doubt over the seller's competence. That part is somewhat scuffed-up in my car and the fact that the part with an "unknown opening" costs $45 less would make that hole easy to live with... if only someone knew how to obtain the functional part that snaps in there. I don't care if it works.
