It was 'sort of' affectionally called the 'cricket on crack' (if it is the siren). There are a number of posts about it dating back quite a few years. Many do unplug it, quite a few just replaced it or in many cases just wired a different mini speaker into a relay to annunciate the lock/unlock, and to heck with the siren function.
