They are handy in determining if you are consistently running rich or lean.
Looking at my exhaust and gas usage, i think its rather rich at the moment. Last mod was the oil catch can and when I had put the wires on, I took pictures of the intake. There was a bit of oil, but nothing too crazy.
After a week I removed it again, and there was substantial more oil in it, only on the right side.
