I understand the passenger seat has the occupancy sensor. But isn't it unlikely the driver's side would have an occupancy sensor? I am trying to say it might not help you because for sure the passenger side has it but the driver side has no reason to have an occupancy sensor for the airbag. Make sense now? Just trying to save you from extra work by removing the driver's seat.
