1. Assuming the driver/passenger doors are locked prior to exit, simply pulling the interior door handle will activate the lock/unlock pump and unlock both doors. I suspect the "you hear the pump run 5/6 seconds" is actually a leak in the pneumatic airline at or near the door handle actuator. Over time they get brittle/worn.

Tim points out a reason the pump would run. There is another thing that happens: If the car is sitting, locked, and you press unlock, the pump runs and unlocks the doors. IF you DO NOT open a door, in a matter of I think 20 seconds, the pump will automatically relock the doors! This has caught some people off guard, including me.

I do find it odd that you hear the pump run for 5-6 SECONDS, that is a LONG time and is simply not normal.
