Yes, failure in the aftermarket module (likely) or bad wiring job in the installation of the module (possible, but not likely).

I also noticed after the issue I was going back inside and went to hit the lock button on the fob and nothing happened also hit the unlock button and still nothing....
The aftermarket electronics are integreted with the SKREEM and ignition switch wiring, I'd blame this all on the aftermarket item.

Could both issues be due to a failing skreem module? The fob worked fine before the issue.
I've been a member here for eleven years. I've NEVER heard of a SKREEM doing this.
Besides, the whole "I step on the brake and it dies" thing describes the performance of a remote-start when you hit the brake BEFORE you put the key in and turn the key to "ON". That is the anti-theft feature built into the remote start kit that prevents some jerk from stealing your car.

I am sure that the SKREEM wiring/design does not make a "phantom start" due to a bad skreem a possibility.

You might drop the underdash again and take photos of the entire area, and post them here.
