Keep in mind, "safe" is up to 2 quarts below full (read the manual carefully). There is no need to put more than 8 quarts in there.
Being that I bought the car a little more than a month ago, I have no idea how much oil was put in. It had just been changed before I bought it. I think your confusing the transmission fluid with engine oil. Engine is 6.1quarts and trans holds 8.5 quarts. Transmission is exactly what amount of fluid you remove because you can't drain the torque converter.
