GG says it is much easier to add oil to an engine after changing it, then to have to take it out if overfilled. All too many posts here by members who have a stuck oil level sensor (which is a biach to replace) IMO mostly due to a chronic (or one time on a high mileage car) oil level too high condition. This should be a warning to everyone that adding is a lot easier than removing (or replacing a stuck oil level sender).
It doesn't hurt the motor at all to have it between the low indication and the mid level indication on the dipstick. Add 7 1/2 quarts new oil after a complete draining (don't forget to put the pan plug back in unless using a top changing unit), cap it up, run it a few minutes, and check it. Why all the emphasis on 'filling to the full mark', is beyond me!
