Ive run into the lifter tick a bunch of times and its mainly due to carbon/sludge build up in the lifters. Its just going to happen if your car has a ton of miles on it. Mine is at 226k right now.

My remedy was to clean out the engine with BG 109 epr, you'll need 2 cans for the oil capacity of our car. After that I switched oil from 0w-40 to liquid moly 10w-40 mos2. Its basically a high zinc oil and I add a can of BG moa for good measure. BG products are used by alot of euro dealerships from MB to even Ferrari. You cannot buy BG products in a store, you have to order them online from amazon or ebay. Usually, its the dealerships selling them.

I also agree with pizza, 0w-40 is just to thin a oil, its damn near water.
