Removed the splash pan and cleaned up the mess. Checked oil level aok THEN......found dip stick gasket was actually split.
Replaced with a new gasket, it now snaps tight. I think we know where the oil came from. Drove the car over my little pit with cardboard under car, ran car for twenty minutes ; no leaks.
Still have to finish cleaning engine, a couple of qts of oil makes a hell of a mess.
