You are really ignoring the obvious here, a check engine light means a code is set. That means the ECU sees something significant.
To post anywhere asking what is going on without telling us what the code or codes are, is wasting your time and ours. All you are getting is guesses.

Get the codes read and come back and give them to us - things SHOULD move along a lot faster that way.


More on the Codes;
It is entirely possible, you will have a P0410 and nothing else - the P0410 means nothing here and for the purposes of this discussion, can be ignored.
This brings us to the next item: If you have no meaningful code, (and the CEL is for an 0410 or similar), that means the issue with the car is not setting any code - even THAT tells us something. It tells us that the failure is not of a nature the ECU can discern, which sends us to look at items outside the ECU's direct vision.
