You could have gone to the tire shop that installed your tires (assuming it was not the dealership) and they might have installed them for free/low cost or you could have still gone to any tire shop and they would have installed them at a lower price than the dealership. The dealership would not be able to see what sensor is in there and then program them. In the end you would have saved money on the cost of the sensors and not paying the dealership to install them only program them. Discount tire has not charged me in the past to change out the sensors or sometimes for something like this they will only charge $5.00 a tire labor.
Ronman, You are absolutely right! I went too fast and did not weigh my options very well. I did call around and get quotes for taking all four tires off and putting new sensors in (OEM). They all told me the same thing that they did not have the DRBIII tool to do it. I however did not peruse the Schrader sensors or call or ask if the tire shops in my area could program them.I paid dearly for this mistake. I hope others learn from my mistake.
