I took my trunk apart on a project and saw my CLP/SSM for the first time, what struck me was the fact that it was on its side and sitting on a wedge-shaped block of foam that raised it above the bottom of the trunk. If most CLP/SSMs are positioned like this I do not know but the block that raised the side of the CLP/SSM almost flush to the floor level of the trunk was not shown in the photos I have seen and certainly raised it higher if there was water in the trunk.
I just popped the inner most plugs in the wells from underneath so they could drain and said forget about it. I never bothered to take the trunk apart and actually look in the wells myself on my 2004. All I know is with the plugs popped I don't have to worry about a costly problem anymore.
