Nice thing about a strap wrench, is it is a "multi-task" tool suitable for all types of cap loosening needs, not just for oil changes. And these don't mark up whatever they are clamped on.
I've got a heavy-duty version that years ago I used to hold the crank pulley on a Merkur XR4Ti whenever I had to change the timing belt. The outer crank pulley had to come off to get at the timing belt. So the crank pulley had to be held tight to loosen screw holding the pulley on. Likewise, putting everything back together was critical so the timing belt didn't move on you. This strap wrench, braced against the floor below the crank puley, held like nothing else I've ever used. It's got a 2 inch wide leather belt on it.
