Re: Changing headlight bulbs aaarrrggghhh
I know this is an ancient thread but I just had to change my low beam bulbs and wouldn't you know it... whoever the idiot was who last changed the right low beam bulb did indeed manage to lose the wire clip that holds it in the socket. I wondered why that light always seemed off. I pull the back off and there's the bulb 1/2 hanging in there. So... What to do? It doesn't take much pressure to hold that bulb in the socket but without any pressure it will just keep falling backward. For a temporary fix I cut a piece of the clear plastic package the new bulbs came in and managed to put that in there with my right hand while holding the bulb in place with my left hand (while facing the car). Then while holding the plastic there with my right hand I put the rear cover back on and the bulb is being held in the socket from the slight pressure but not enough that it can push the back cover off. Anyone know where one of those stupid little wire clips can be found? I'm kind of wondering if I may be able to somehow fashion one out of a paperclip but that would involve taking one of the others that is in place out to use as a template which I could do. Heck, maybe I just leave that piece of plastic in there for the duration or I'll take a measurement from the back of the electric plug to the plane of the rear rubber cover and then come up with something I could glue to the back of the wire connector that would be just the right size to hold the bulb in the socket when the back cover is on.
