(1) Two seat sport cars don't sell no matter who builds them
Order a Lotus Elise now, and you will have a delivery date of approximately one year from now, or longer. They are that over/pre sold with cash deposits, even WITH some dealers tacking on major premiums.
Sure, some will drop out of line, but once you're called, with about 4 months to delivery, to finalize the order w/color choices, the deposit is then non-refundable. Lotus can sell every car they build, in advance, for the next several years.
(2) Any sports car with low profile tires will have tire and rim
issues.Seen bubbles on goodyears and mich etc. low profile
tires don't like pot holes.
Fine and dandy, but no excuse for Chrsyler and Michelin not working together to have them in the pipeline at the time the car was released. In fact, for an 'upscale' car, there really IS no excuse, especially if, as you say, these types of problems are to be expected. It should have been anticipated and the market should've been prepared.
(3)A hand full of problems on a hand full of cars doesn't make the
car bad quality
It's more than a handful of cars experiencing them, some of the problems are quite profound. Maybe an overstatement to say the car is BAD quality, but it would be an equal overstatement to say it is GOOD quality. Underneath its pretty skin, it's pretty mediocre. Even the hard core enthusiasts are changing brake pads, chipping it, going with K & N filters...that in addition to getting their glove box locks, et al, fixed.
What's this about rough idling after oil changes?
(4)Rx7 had poor sales went away and came back as rx8
(5) 300z had poor sales went away and came back as 350z
Fail to see the point of #'s 4 and 5. When the Crossfire goes away, what will it return as? Actually, it's a way for DC to get rid of its inventory of now obsolete SLK driveline pieces as it introduces a new SLK. So really, it's the old SLK coming back as a Crossfire.
(6)I see crossfire sales picking up at my dealer
I do too, ESPECIALLY WITH A DEALER IN BALTIMORE TODAY ADVERTISING IN THE SUDAY PAPER NEW CROSSFIRES FOR $27,800! That should help. And I know that makes me feel good about my 'investment.'
(7) crossfire has a 7 year pwr.train warr.
Not terribly reassuring, really, if one actually has to USE that warranty quite a bit, and a lot of folks on this board are racking up miles to and from the dealer early into ownership.
Nice to know DC is paying for the repairs, and that they spend more time with the car than the owner does.
(8 Sold 20 crossfires still no returns for major failures
Sold 20 since July? They're flying off your lot! It's not just the major problems that are annoying, or give someone buyers remorse when he/she plunks down $35 large for a car.
The 'little' issues, adding up, cause buyers to think twice about their purchase.
(9)Crossfire has twice the build quality of any other chrysler
That's not saying much. See # 8 above. Dealing with these 'little' issues have convinced me to not buy another Chrysler product.
(10)It out sold the TT and boxter last month
Not sure the point of this point. Don't know that it's accurate, either.
In it's current price range, which is now sub $30K in many places...how'd it do against the Z or RX8?
(11)Would be smarter to hold on to the car get use out of it and
have fun get your moneys worth.
Matter of opinion.
(12)What can you buy for 30k that can compare to the crossfire
RX 8, 350Z, Subaru WRX...they all outperform the Crossfire...unless of course the only criteria for comparison is unique looks and people staring at a red light.
Oh, but remember, LOTS of folks on this board paid $35K, not $30K. That's not making them feel any better.
