I had the same thing happen to my 04 Sebring, turns out there was a misfire in multiple cylinders, which caused the shuddering (obviously because the power wasn't balanced). It did eventually stop shuddering (i'm assuming all the spark plugs started firing again) but I still had the engine light on. Turns out the OBD would detect excess fuel in the exhaust, and since there was too much and the engine couldn't burn it off, the engine light comes on. The dealer then changed all of my spark plugs.
