Good advice, If you install one like advised @ Heavy Duty (HD), make sure it'll handle the starting current for the time it takes for the car to start. Also, when you turn that switch back on give it a few seconds to stabilize the car's electronics.
You have to install this on the NEG cable before any other wires (accessories you added) attached to the NEG at the battery, or a back-feed may hurt any equipment you installed (and if it is 'always-on' or internally completing a circuit), it will back-feed and draining the battery regardless, and maybe burn up something electrical in the car. Reason installed on the NEG side, you want to isolate the negative of the car, the alarm is designed to sense a tampering (removal/isolation) of the positive as an attempt of intrusion/theft, alarm will sound if alarm is working.
