I've never read about an ASP 178 diameter Crank pulley failing. They were the "standard" for additional performance prior the variety of supercharger pulleys entering the marketplace. There were other crank pulleys less reliable offered by other vendors, in crank sizes such as 181 or 185. The stock crank from the factory is 155.
The ASP crank pulley was expensive, around $950, so they were bypassed, and owners decided on the "cheaper" supercharger pulley at $450.
It's all about choices....
