Put the car up on jack stands and inspect the drivetrain. Pay attention to the Guibo's and the u-joint, they may have deteriorated. If any of the 'shields' have contact, or too near the driveshaft, it may be rubbing. This simple inspection may save you plenty, let us know what you found.
