I have had that situation, and it was because the terminal clamp was on a corroded terminal. The car would start and then not start because of the corrosion. SoI think you have a bad connection somewhere or corrosion inside the cable sheath hidden from view.
The corrosion was common in the old days when the battery cases were made of pitch and a gap opened up around the terminal post allowing gases to escape around the terminals and cause the corrosion. Todays batteries are made from polypropylene and shrink around the terminals.
