The 2008 service manual has the most detailed top instructions there are. And even they are not that good, but I've attached them below.
I will bet your cable has broken or stretched, you've got to get in there and fine out. Put the top partway up so the lid is vertical and you can see the mechanism.

OEM cables are no longer available, but there are places you can have a custom cable built for under $100. They will need exact measurements to go by, which you can provide by sending them the one from the 'good' side.
