You MIGHT have water in the lower portion of the hatch under the foam 'soaking' the modules there. Take something sharp and punch a hole in one or both of the two grommets just rearward of the rear axle shafts (bottom of the bay under the hatch) from under the car to see if there is standing water there (although their may be damage already and no water currently present). Once that module gets soaked, all kinds of problems happen. True the siren battery dies and the alarm module internally shorts, but checking for water in that bay under the hatch just might save you a lot of $ and a never-ending headache. BTW IF you do just cut that siren wire, make sure the battery is disconnected AND you seal (with tape) the ends of the wires in the harness. A short in these cars may do more damage than just blowing a fuse. Good luck!
