We just saw off the excess from the hex key. Hack saws work well for htat. @Panamamike : If you don't like that option, just carry a hex key. That's what I do, I have the factory tool (which had no hex key) and a metric hex wrench together in the glove box - I'm ready to go. Fun fact: The orignal tool had no hex key as it was "An emergency top tool" and the manual tells you to raise the top without latching the bow - and then to go to a dealer for an expensive fix.

First, dealers do not support the car anymore. Second, doing a full manual operation is not that hard:
