I don't even think you can buy a POS top for less than $800.
And $350 to install is a good price - altho once you are a real member here, and start going to events, you can get the top replaced for free like I did at the Eureka Springs event.

I would be uncomfortable leaving the car out in the heat. Even if you get a top that is sewn in, the sewing only secures the top from stress, the glue is what will keep it water tight.
My old Ford Ranger sits outside, my bike and Roadster sit inside, away from heat, UV and hail. (I am up in Fort Worth, we can't go a month without hail.)
