Turn the square spindles that stick out from the firewall and set them the middle click position. Then turn the ***** so that they are vertical. .Then slide them together which is easier said than done. You well see that one of the square shafts is longer than the other, slide that one on first. It is a tricky job though keeping the square spindles in position.

I completely agree with
onehundedr80's feedback above. I made getting the shafts re-inserted into their respective spindles a little easier by using some split corrugated wire loom to extend the spindles for re-alignment. Took me a couple of tries, but worked like a champ & no need to remove the wire loom afterwards. Something that also might help is to remove the center console HVAC vent located directly above. Gives you some improved visibility & access when re-installing the HVAC Control Module.
