On two of my cars the mounting holes were too big and stripped. Between the outer plastic panel and the rear trim panel in the trunk is a sheet metal panel, I drilled a pilot hole for a #8 screw from the back panel thru the metal panel and remounted the license plate with screws long enough to go thru the holes in the metal panel. Easy fix, no parts and very secure.
