You haven't priced replacement keys for other cars, have you? Long gone are the days where you can 'cut' a key and start the vehicle. My 2006 Vulcan and 2005 Ranger have no anti-theft RFID chips in their keys. But anything recent does.

My 2001 Ranger Edge has an 80 bit transponder key. I bought truck used, got two transponder keys on ebay, took them to local Lincoln-Mercury dealership, and they wiped all three and reprogrammed all three to the truck (since I only got one from the used car dealership). So, my OEM 2001 Ranger Edge, has an 80 bit transponder key (
