Please help!!
I have an odd problem with my wiring.
I have the Kenwood Marine head unit (no CD) and I used the Metra 70-1786 plug n play harness. Everything works as far as power, lighting, etc.
When I plug the white and gray RCA plugs into the head unit the sound does work (using either the front or rear female jacks).
But when I have just the gray and white plugged in, the sound also goes to my rear subs. So, at full volume, the music doesn't seem very loud.
Also, the green and purple RCA plugs do absolutely nothing, no matter where I plug them. These male RCA plugs are dead.
So, in a nutshell... the gray and white spreads the sound to all 4 speakers (front left & right + both subs), and the purple and green are dead.
I'm probably over explaining this, but just want to make sure you guys understand, so I can correct the problem.
As I look at the Metra connector, the green and purple don't even go to anything on the other side. (see pics - top left and right corners)
If you understand my plight, please explain it in a simple way. I'd like to get the channels separated properly and get the subs on a their own separate chanel and get my volume to where it should be. I've looked at all the diagrams, schematics, etc... but I'm still perplexed and I just need a simple solution, if possible.
On a side note, somewher down the line I'm actually thinking about bypassing the factory subs and putting 6x9 speaker boxes in the rear cargo area.
Could I use the factory wiring going to the subs for my left and right rear speakers?
Or, are those dedicated "subwoofer-only" (mono) wires coming from the factory amp?
That would mean I have to run separate rear wiring from the head unit, right?
Thanks in advance!!
