The silver "ribs" have several tabs that are glued into the main grille, as seen from the back of the grille. There are 4 screws on the top of the grille to begin the removal, tilt forward slightly and the grille will be easily removed, so the bottom tabs will not be broken.
Once removed look at the back of the grille, you'll see the attaching tabs/slots for the ribs. DO NOT pry the ribs away from the grille at this time, since they (ribs) are fragile. Using a heated soldering iron, apply it against those visible rib tabs to loosen them up enough to help pry the ribs off the grille for your painting project. BTW, those ribs are 3 different lengths, so when reapplying to the grille make sure they are in correct order.

The silver ribs have rectangular tabs on them that fit into rectangular holes in the black part of the grille. the tabs are slightly longer than the depth of the grille holes. the rib tabs are heated and squashed thus riveting the ribs and grille together.
I think applying heat to the joint may in fact weld the two parts together.

Painting and the use of silver tape over the silver ribs has been done successfully in the past.
