Per Dave's comment above, you need a Garage Door Opener Bridge that mounts in your garage somewhere. When you use your older version Homelink system (aka Crossfire Homelink), the signal is received by the Bridge Unit mounted in the garage and it sends an updated signal to the newer garage door opener. Like I stated previously, I just use the app (myQ) on my cell phone for the new garage door opener whenever I'm in the Crossfire. (Note: The app can enable the garage door opener to be linked to my Amazon account. Whenever an Amazon delivery is made, the garage door opener gets a signal from the Amazon driver, the garage door opens so the goods can be placed in the garage & the delivery person closes the garage door when they leave. Garage Door Opener has a Hi-Def camera which allows me to see anyone entering my garage via Wi-Fi. I DO NOT use this feature! NO WAY!!!) For all the other cars, I just bought new handheld signal senders & threw al the previous handhelds in the trash.
