John, is that a plastic tye? If so, does the heat from the exhaust get to where that tye is? Might melt it if so. It IS a great idea to temp locate it to see if that is the issue, just lets you know where the 'bump' is. Hope this lasts!
That spot does not get very hot.
I have a wide plastic zip tie on mine in the same place for a couple years now
