If yours should fail, it would be best to have either the Mercedes Swap Shop or NeedsWings repair the original.
Also, don't over think your car and don't be worried about problems that you read about. You're reading about problems here because the forum is here to help with problems and other stuff.
Common things you should carry in your car: A good metric tool kit, a tire repair kit, a spare RCM, a spare crankshaft position sensor (BOSCH ONLY don't go cheap on this) and a head mounted flashlight.
Also look in the driver's side fuse door (between the dash and the door). You remove the panel by turning the two slots. See if anyone wrote a note on the fuse door saying the sticky key was fixed. They usually put a date on it.
