What type of shop are you taking your Crossfire to for repairs? Your shop is wrong about the part on your transmission being obsolete! The part in question is listed below (1st attached line), and they've been known to fail and leak. You'll need additional parts to do a transmission service on your Crossfire, since your car is 18 years old.
Find yourself an independent Mercedes Benz shop (not a dealer) and they will be able to correct your issues with the leak.
