Shops states this is an obsolete part.

What type of shop are you taking your Crossfire to for repairs? Your shop is wrong about the part on your transmission being obsolete! The part in question is listed below (1st attached line), and they've been known to fail and leak. You'll need additional parts to do a transmission service on your Crossfire, since your car is 18 years old.
Find yourself an independent Mercedes Benz shop (not a dealer) and they will be able to correct your issues with the leak.
Good Luck....

Thanks a bunch I was wondering if that was the correct part. Shop is a local shop but deals with Fords not Chrysler.
Yeah not sure what the transmission needs but only has 20K miles on the car was a garage queen and covered when Not in use.

As DTMenace stated find an independent shop that works on Mercedes. The Crossfire is over 80% Mercedes SLK320. When looking for most parts use 2003 SLK320.

Thanks guys.
I feel comfortable in changing out the connector and oil level sensor will have a shop do the rear crankshaft oil seal and the valve cover gaskets.
since the tranny only has 20k on it just like the car and has been kept in the garage do you feel a transmission service while not necessarly needed it would be a good idea just so all the adfitives are current and good.

Rear crank seal is a Big(ish) job. The engine and trans need to be separated to do it.

while they are apart, it might not be a bad idea.

if everything ia already open….

i would do it but I have crossfire service OCD

The fluid breaks down, so it is cheap enough to change it. And the plug is easy to replace. You will need a trans dipstick so you can make sure you have the right amount. I did mine, the only problem was the plug did not fit as well, so I purchased another one and the leak went away.
