I just imagine some Benz engineer saying, Ya, connecting the hazard lights and the turn signals so if one part fails, the whole other part fails, makes sense.

Just a thought, but have you tried replacing the new LEDs with the original turn signal bulbs to see if the problem goes away?
Also, when you pull the bulbs, check the contacts on the sockets as well as the contact surface in the headlight housing. Maybe something is not making a good connection or is causing a short.
