I have a lightly modified SRT-6. My dual cold air intake is off of an SL55 AMG. Today, I replaced the filters. So I noticed one side of the intake had two filters. A regular Mann C3689 paper air filter on each side, and an extra Mann AE 2501 charcoal filter on only one side. It fits in a special little bracket located on the clean side of the paper filter.

Forgive me if it seems I am lost understanding your post as I do not have the setup you have. A couple questions please?
1. Is your CAI installed with filters outside the radiator wall?
2. Is the airboxes that you have for your CAI sealed to air below them from the engine (I ask because I have no idea what the 'assembled' air box system your mounting to the XF looks like)?
Commonly speaking, the restrictive total used in the intake air flow must not exceed the total of the designed airbox for an untuned engine, within reason, this is why I am asking the two Q's. I ask because I am curious as I do not nor have ever owned an SRT-6 (yet, if ever).
Obviously that added 'item' should not be there, and there should not be more than two filters in the intake air flow system (one each side).
