The Mann AE 2501 on the left filter housing of my SL55 AMG intake, on my SRT-6. Notice, it doesnt even cover the entire face of the filter housing. It sits on top of the Mann C 3689 paper filter, on the clean side.

You can sort of see part of the special bracket holding the Mann AE 2501 charcoal filter in the housing. Ive taken the filter out of the housing to show off the part number.

Notice, these are NOT Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 air cleaners. They are SL55 AMG dual cold air intake adapted to fit an SRT-6.

Folks, this is NOT a cabin air filter. Please don't say that my engine DCAI has a cabin air filter. I know what the cabin air filter is, where it goes, what it looks like etc... Again, this is NOT a cabin air filter.

Can anyone explain to me what the Mann AE 2501 does? Why is there a charcoal filter in my engine dual cold air intake system?

How come it only covers about 7/8 of the face of the filter housing?

I took the extra charcoal filter out for now. If anyone is interested in putting a SL55 AMG intake in their car, the clips on the bottom where the intake snaps on to the engine must be relocated. The previous owners welded additional clips to the factory clips to make it fit. See the photo below.

Again, this is NOT a cabin air filter. I promise.

You can bend or twist it any way you want, the paper filter you hold in your hand is a cabin air filter or an engine filter for a different model. The SL55 intake, an upgrade MOD due to being less restrictive, only has one filter and the parts number to my knowledge is MANN C3689. Perfect fit and only one filter.

So whatever is going on in your engine air filter compartment is wrong. There should not be two filters per compartment, there should not be a gap and the filter you have in there is a cabin air filter after all (just not for our cars) LOL. Go and buy the right filters and you should be golden!
