My guess was that it is the PCV filter to slow fouling the regular paper filter. I will reinstall it.

EDIT: THE PAPER FILTER IS "IN FRONT" OF THE CHARCOAL. THE CHARCOAL FILTER DOESN'T STOP THE CRANKCASE VENT FUMES FROM HITTING THE PAPER FILTER. I DID NOT REINSTALL IT.

I sent a message to the manufacturer, "Mann", here is their reply:[After further discussion and research it was determined that AE 2501 is made for a private original equipment manufacturer.

It is not sold in the aftermarket and no other information is available on the product.
