How is the Crossfire "their own stuff"? Other than the TPMS and the body design, the car is an SLK320. In fact, most parts are cheaper if you search and order the part for "2003 SLK320".
You need no dealer to replace an alternator, any mechanic can do that for you - or you can do it yourself, which I did. My one caution: DO NOT buy a NAPA rebuilt alternator for that car. I went thru that, finally gave up and ordered a new Bosch thru Autozone and put it on myself.
