General procedure/rules for installing flat gaskets:
1. Both mating surfaces of parts to be sealed must be clean - free of oil and old sealant.
2. Uncoated paper gaskets should be coated on both surfaces with a very thin layrer of sealant, i.e. Permatex 82180 black silicone gasket sealant. Do not apply a thick layer.
3. Precoated gaskets or molded silicone gaskets do not need any sealant. When necessary, small dabs of sealant can be used to hold the gasket in position during assembly.
4. Tighten fastners uniformily in an alternating sequence to ensure proper sealing.
