2005 Crossfire Limited 3.2L V6, 6 speed, naturally aspirated.
Replacing the water pump. The new pump has the flat PAPER type gasket, should I coat the new gasket before installing it? Thank you for your attention! Gary F

NA or SRT? I understand there are some differences between the two pumps, you might want to specify which engine you are asking about before one of the truly knowledgeable members see this and tries to answer.

Hi, I as well have a 2005 crossfire 6 speed manual,m not srt. I’m replacing my water pump now as we speak. I took off my water pump and there is a flat metal “gasket” between the pump and the block. The new one I bought comes with a PAPER flat gasket. Do I use that?! In the instructions it says to apply sealant to it. 1. should I use the paper gasket? 2. If yes what type of sealant do I use? 3. Do I apply sealant to both sides of the gasket?

Do not use a paper gasket, order one from NeedsWings.com and specify that your Crossfire is a Limited Model, since the SRT6's water pump is different.
Good Luck.... Dennis

Thanks for the replies, I checked needswings, he only has the rubber gasket for other models doesn’t fit the limited. Does anyone know if this one works with the limited? Or is the added rubber going to add unnecessary space?
Thank you!

Personally I would spend the extra money and go with the MAHLE / Clevite gasket. It's more like the original gasket.
Also, when you take off the original pump, take pictures of where any rtv sealant was, if there was any.
There should be no difference in space as far as the gasket is concerned. It will crush against the block once it's torqued down.

That's good advice!
I was in same situation with the wife's CLK 500, M113 a week past; I went to Mercedes and bought the correct gasket (metal and covered with a rubberized coating) just like the original which never leaked with 211,00 miles on it. Why use thin paper? The correct gasket is similar to a head gasket.
Here is one bit of advice (if I remember correctly). Have a FLAT piece of cardboard the size of the water pump handy, trace the pump outline and put a dot on it where each bolt goes (it'll be plain as day in a few seconds). As you remove each bolt holding the old pump, jab it into the cardboard where it came out (put the bolt through the cardboard). As the pump is being installed, you can now make sure the correct bolt goes into the correct hole (This is why, the bolts are different lengths in certain places). Good luck!
General procedure/rules for installing flat gaskets:
1. Both mating surfaces of parts to be sealed must be clean - free of oil and old sealant.
2. Uncoated paper gaskets should be coated on both surfaces with a very thin layrer of sealant, i.e. Permatex 82180 black silicone gasket sealant. Do not apply a thick layer.
3. Precoated gaskets or molded silicone gaskets do not need any sealant. When necessary, small dabs of sealant can be used to hold the gasket in position during assembly.
4. Tighten fastners uniformily in an alternating sequence to ensure proper sealing.
