Default Emergency items for Crossfire trunk

OK, you are going on a long trip and as always you are prepared for most eventualities.
Besides your AAA/CAA membership, remember you have no spare tire, so this may be a good investment.
What is packed in the trunk for emergencies.

OEM tire pump, jack and lug nut wrench. Dump the tire Goo kit and replace it with something more useful.

Also;

1, Tire plug kit.

2, Multi-function tool.

Roadster owners should carry this or a thin 10mm open end wrench as well as a 5mm hex wrench

3, Crankshaft Position Sensor and the tools required to remove and replace, a ¼” socket ratchet, 5” extension and a E8 Torx socket.
Brand: BOSCH
Bosch Item Number: 0 261 210 170 - Also Replaces 0 261 210 171
Mercedes Benz #: 003 153 27 28 - Also Replaces 003 153 28 28
https://www.germanautosupply.com/sto...sensor-82.html
Cost $45.50 with free shipping to the US, $32 to Canada.

4, Camshaft Position Sensor, and tools as above.
Bosch #0 232 103 037 (same as the OEM part)
Cam Sensor on eBay,$65 with free shipping. Plus $25 to Canada.

5, Flashlight or better yet a lantern.

6, First aid kit.

7, Blanket and matches.

8, Safety triangle and Hi Vis vest. (European requirement)

9. Serpentine Belt

10, Towels and some waterless hand cleaner.

11, Fire extinguisher

What else besides a good credit card?

Let's skip the polish and cleaners as we are after emergency items. When we break down no one is looking for dust on the wheels.

I have most of that covered, but not all. It all fits under my "false floor" I made when I first bought the car. I also carry a torque wrench with a deep 17mm just in case you need to tighten a wheel, or someone elses, as I had to already. I am working on a spare camshaft sensor when I find a good deal. A small roll of duct tape and electrical tape can be used for many issues. I converted a trouble light over to 12v with a 20 ft cord to help at night. A 4-n-1 screwdriver helps save on room as well.

The OEM floor cover goes over top of this and no one realizes it is there.

why? certain 10w40's can be used without voiding the warranty

While I realize that what you say is true, it WAS unfortunately a typo, I meant 0W40 - didn't want to start another controversy about oil ...

I understand. Its just that if I am going to take up limited valuable space in the car, I will make it the correct stuff...

I'm sure you mean a deep 17mm socket, the same one used on the belt tensioner on the n/a. At least the OEMs are 17mm, but yours ?

I just put a kit together and in addition to the above items I also put in a few pair of latex gloves. Handy in case you have to render first aid and also nice to have if you have to work on the engine.

I hope you don't get pulled over in a search for a serial killer in your area.

Credit card and a cell phone.

Max Care and Towing insurance. As stated above by my pragmatic friend from Alabama, if I carry all of that other stuff-I may as well stay home. Or buy new at my destination and drop it off at Goodwill when I leave.

LED flashlight, batteries, tire plug, belt and oil.

Fini.

I forgot that roadsters have a limited trunk space compared to the coupes massive trunk.
The spares are there because it may be days before you can get a part in Nowheresville, I did say this was for a long trip, not a trip to the milk store.

Steve sent me a link for an affordable SPARE camshaft sensor to have in my tool kit. I have one on the way. More available.

I just checked that link out and it says it is not compatible for the Crossfire.

It fits the SLK320 and C320, so I am sure it will work. If they didn't include the Crossfire in their chart, then it won't say it will work.

Thanks, I should have checked that out. They aren't the first to not know of our association w/ MB, that's for sure.

From what I can tell, this sensor will cover many different part numbers. If you google, you can find that MB #0041536928 will also convert over to the Crossfire application. When I get it, I will try it out since it is very easy to change over.

Some aftermarket manufacturers will box the same exact item, with a different part number to throw you off and get you to purchase the more expensive of the two for your application.

Ditto to James' reply - I too ordered a (relatively) cheap C320 camshaft position sensor
( around $46 with shipping ) that has not arrived yet - I too will check it out.

( EBAY - deutshepartsusa :
MERCEDES Camshaft CAM Position Sensor W140 W129 W210

US $39.49
Shipping:$6.00 Standard Shipping

( this is the same link that James mentions above )

And no, I do not stay up all night - I was paged for a database issue.
