Tailgating cop
It was an early, dark morning in Guadalupe County, Texas. 4-Lane highway. I saw the Crown Vic (County Sheriff) in the right lane, but I was only doing 65 in a 60. I really didn't think about it, as I slowly passed him. He immediately fell in behind me, and I wondered if I was getting a ticket. I kept driving, and he pulled up on the rear of my coupe so close, that I could not see his headlights. I could see the glow of the headlights, but not the lights. I knew I was getting a ticket, but he was so close I did not want to alter my driving at all. He followed me for about 4 miles (tailgating the whole way), and as we entered Seguin, I slowly merged to the left lane. He pulled up next to me, I rolled my window down, and he hollared, quite angrily, "You really like to push the envelope! Slow down!" Luckily, he sped off before I could say: "But, it was only 5 over!" He was gone. He had tailgated me so closely his car merged with mine, and then says I'm pushing the envelope?
You are so bad.......shame on you.... speed demon.... slow down... sounds like a jealous ole' cranky cop to me... But, if they turn around and come up behind you, I would slow to the speed limit...lol. Usually the tail gating means he is running your plate for info... Just a different breed of cop out there today. In my day, if I flipped, and came after you, that would mean you get stopped, not messed with... But, I am retired...so what do we know...
I work with cops. They said they prefer that folks NOT alter their driving habits by slowing down too much. They said when they are on a minor (no lights) call, people slow down and impede the cops' travel. They said don't worry, and I'm not.
Once (in a different car) a cop pulled me over for 11 over the limit. I said "I'm sorry officer. I usually only go 5 over the limit." He cracked up and told me to go on, but slow down.
I agree the cop was in a bad mood. Probably for something totally different.
I like my car too much to 'test the ABS'!

Lights come on,,,, It's a local cop.
He says he was trying to read my license plate. One of the lights was out.
Yeah right. I did go fifty in a forty so technically he got me. Improper tag violation is $140 bucks. 10 over is $75 so he says he is doing me a favor.
But it puts points on my license.
First time I ever paid a lawyer to "fix" one for me.
Next time I just hold speed and go home.
I am not taking sides but 5 over IS 5 over. Will you get a ticket at 5 over? Probably not but it still IS 5 over. I don't like to give them any more reason to pull me over then they already have and I definitely don't wanna be the guy who they use to "set an example".
LMAO....well, If in my day if I came up behind you in a marked police car, and you are 10 over, you are busted, period. We all are different. As for you Franc, glad you beat his ***...I have had this done to me all the time...even last week in the MB...I had a trooper ride my ***, dark out, but I could tell it was a Dodge, and sure enough, he hot dogs around me, and then jumps back in front and hits the brakes back down to 55. Little **** weed... The Indiana State Police Superintendent used to be my Sheriff, he's busted. Tired of games...
I was 16 and was driving with my dad in the car. This is 1966, on Hillsboro Blvd, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. I had the 35 mph speed limit pegged. Dad leaned over and said, "You can usually go 5 over the limit." I sped up. Forever.
I agree 5 mph is fine, and in fact, on the interstate 10 over is usually safe as well. As speed limits go down and congestion starts like entering the city, then enforcement goes up. But, I have to agree, it seems more aggressive tactics are happening with officers coming up behind you hard, or tailgating, baiting you to speed up. That is bullshit. And officers need to know it. I once found out years ago about officers on my city department were having a contest on how many citations they could write...that ended very quickly. I reminded them who paid their salaries. Small town like ours, it doesn't take long for people to get fed up...
When followed, I just set the cruise at the speed limit and stay in the slow lane. They will either want to talk to me or they don't. I think being an old gray haired geezer helps. They seem to want to talk to me a lot less than they used to.
As I understand it, being older helps some. However,
If you want to get pulled over, a pair of ***** helps.
That'd be either one cute gal or two dufus guys in a sporty car. Either gets a secound look.
I get checking out the cute chcik But the two guys?
One has to wonder about our current crop of LEO's.

Yes I go 5 over most of the time to ! but when I see the poe poe I slow it down to the speed limit & let them go around me ! I havent had a ticket since I was 18 & want to keep it that way ! Been let go alot of times since then !!! Im thinking age helps !!!!
During an economic crisis, municipal budgets become severely strained. Enforcement becomes more opportunistic and even predatory. It's the sad math of our times.
I can't speak for your state, but the $$$$ don't go into the general fund. Part goes to the court, part goes to the state, training fund, and if a local or county jurisdiction wrote the citation, a small part goes to their training fund. So, that doesn't fly here...
Yeah I'm scary about things like that. I respect LEOs and don't want to make their day harder. LOL
