Fit better in my crossfire now.
Hi yall,
Just wanted to give some words of encouragement to anyone out there that has an issue being comfortable in their car due being over weight. it's the holiday season and all the goodies are out now and many of us will have gained or will gain weight in the next 2 months if not very careful.
I have had spinal fusion surgery back in February and now have rods and screws in my lower back. I am recovering nicely but it is a long process. One thing brought up by my surgeon was I need to lose weight. This will help my back feel much better and take much of the strain of it as well as knees and ankles and feet help in being overall in better health.
I will be 55 in March and have a small build. I am only 5ft 7inches but weighed 212 in September. I have lost weight through caloric deficit (burning more than I take in) and writing down everything that goes in my body and counting every calorie eaten and burned. I also am walking a minimum of 2 miles a day sometimes 3. My goal is to weigh 165.
I have lost over 27lbs as of today and weigh 184.4
I decided I was tired of being fat and needed to help my back recovery too so as I tend to do I researched diets and metabolism. There is so much false info being repeated on the web when it comes to this it crazy. I spoke to weight lifters about this as well as doctors. Not trainers and dieticians.
What I found are some interesting facts. I mean science facts proven by scientific testing and examining results. This includes the largest study on metabolism and starvation ever done. It was on the concentration camp survivors after WWII. Weather you agree or not here are some facts,
1. Eating small meals more frequently helps blood sugar and weight loss. FALSE!
Studies show that 3 meals or less a day and taking a 20 min walk after every meal keeping in mind the total calories being eaten actually helps blood sugar be more stable with less spikes and gives you a more full feeling after these meals.
2.Not eating more often slows metabolism down keeping you from losing weight and causing "starvation mode"
FALSE.
The starvation mode thing is a big myth that has been busted several times but keeps being repeated. If you eat less calories than you burn you lose weight (fat) and it isn't muscle!
It's that simple. Until you get down to around 5% to 7% body fat you will burn fat not muscle. That has been proven in the WWII study and many times since. It takes over 3 days for a persons metabolism to slow due to not eating enough calories and we are talking 300 calories a day. Your Metabolism will not slow down enough to mater in weight loss otherwise no matter how you space out your meals and as long as you eat at least 1000 calories a day if sedentary. It will effect your mood though.
You may have heard somewhere that a person said they reached a point that no matter how little they ate they couldn't lose weight or that they entered starvation mode and couldn't lose weight because everything they ate got stored not burned!. That is a scientific impossibility!
I laugh at that for if it were true then a person could not waste away and starve to death. These folks simply were not counting the calories they ate vs burned correctly and did not have enough deficit to lose weight.
3. Eating less carbs or less fat etc will make you lose weight faster. FALSE!
it does not matter what you eat period. You need some protein and some carbs and some fat but the bottom line is things with fat and lots of carbs have more calories in them. Unlike fruit and veggies. I eat a lot of these now! Again it's about in vs out. You need to calculate on the web using the BMI calculators what your caloric intake to maintain your current weight at your height and age is then reduce that by at least 500 calories a day and you will lose 2 to 3 pounds a week guaranteed!!
I have written down the calories in every thing I eat and drink for 10 weeks. I do not eat more that 1100 calories a day. In this time I have lost 27 lbs and have 20 to go. Then I have to maintain my intake at around 2000 calories a day to stay at 165 lbs. For me that means less pizza, less fast food, less dare I say it....beer,,,, and more veggies, salad, fruits etc, I feel better and my organs have less fat and strain on them especially my heart and liver.
But most importantly, I fit in the seat of my crossfire sooo much better with less of a gut than I had before!
So guys and gals if I can do it you can do it. It just takes will power and determination and I have lots of both!
Get healthy, lose the weight! You will be glad you did every time you look in the mirror or get in your car and so will your loved ones.

hey Im 6 ft & 198 & could lose 30 - 40 lbs & it wouldnt kill me !!!! but hey I fit in the crossfire any way !!!!! So eat drink & be merry !!!! Happy Holidays everyone !!!!
I've heard 10lbs lost is equivalent-ish to 1hp gain.. Personally, I could stand to gain 10hp haha
